Energy Partnership Chile – Germany

Germany and Chile have joined forces in the Energy Partnership to enhance energy efficiency, make greater use of renewable energy, step up decarbonisation efforts and meet their international commitments. Together they are transforming their energy systems for the future and opening up new fields of business.

The Energy Partnership became operational in April 2019. Its partners are the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Chilean Ministry of Energy. The Partnership has a full-time secretariat in Santiago de Chile. GIZ, the executive body of the Partnership, has more than ten years of successful cooperation with the Chilean Ministry of Energy.

Strategic topics

High-level policy dialogue

The Energy Partnership is a platform that supports high-level intergovernmental dialogue on energy. We prepare and facilitate high-level meetings, support the implementation of agreed activities and organise ongoing exchange between relevant institutions in Germany and Chile.

Working groups

Carbon phase-out, renewables phase-in: the BMWE and the Chilean Ministry of Energy work together on ways to achieve a successful and just transition from a fossil to a renewable energy system.

Carbon Neutral Innovations: the BMWE and the Chilean Ministry of Energy work together to optimise their national hydrogen strategies and promote technology exchange, highlighting the role of green hydrogen as an energy carrier for decarbonisation.

Technology transfer

Both countries also exchange on energy efficiency and on the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation in the energy sector. We organise and accompany expert delegations, promote workshops and professional placements, and build bridges between the public and private sectors.

Energy + Women

The Energy Partnership supports the Chilean Ministry of Energy’s “Energía + Mujer” initiative to increase women’s presence in the energy industry and promote gender equality.
